Venerable Matt Talbot

Venerable Matt Talbot found freedom from alcoholism before the inception of 12-step programs and prior to modern understandings of addiction and recovery. After making a pledge to God that he would not drink, he began devoting himself to service, making amends for his actions, and praying as intensely as he sought alcohol. He remained sober for about 40 years before his death. He is a patron of alcoholics and has been known to intercede for those struggling to quit drinking and for family members impacted by a loved one’s alcoholism.
