READ

“I have learned valuable tools and lessons that I still use in my daily life from each sponsor. Even if it is just one small thing, each of these relationships was special. For example, one of my sponsors helped me to put “good enough” in my vocabulary. For a perfectionist like me, this was challenging to learn. Another sponsor taught me that I had the ability to rewrite my story and I didn’t have to keep repeating behaviors. I feel that God always put in front of me the type of sponsor I needed at that time.” - Jana I.

REFLECT

Reflect on the following questions. It’s recommended that you write these down in a journal. Feel free to share your responses below in the discussion board.

  • Are my frustrations or concerns with my sponsor rooted in legitimate recovery needs, or are they connected to avoidance, pride, or resistance to growth?
  • What qualities or forms of guidance do I currently need most in this season of recovery?
  • How can I approach a potential change in sponsorship with honesty, gratitude, humility, and respect?
