We worked through the Steps and she was there for me as I was dealing with the death of my husband and that of my 21-year-old daughter.” - Diane S.
“The man who would eventually become my first sponsor invited me to grab a cup of coffee after the meeting and we started doing this on a regular basis the first six months. We read through the Big Book and considered it in light of passages from the Bible. We shared with each other what we thought, and he listened to me and educated me on the nature of addiction. He told me that he would give me a vocabulary with which I could understand my life and experiences, which was really helpful and valuable for me. We need a sponsor to help us as we experience things we don't have the answers to. If we did have the answers already, then we probably wouldn’t need recovery in the first place.” - Scott W.

Just getting started. Day one of the 90 day journey. I’ve tried AA but never followed through. I’ve not worked the steps so I’ll start with Step one. I admit I am powerless over alcohol.

I tried to navigate my lust addiction on my own but end up doing too much on my own, and wasting time before attending meetings. A sponsor has offered guidance and hope, and more than what a journal can accomplish. It's taken time but I started working through a new sponsor, and I'm concerned about meeting my current sponsor in person due to his work constraints. Talking over the phone works well but my concerns are with meeting new sponsors if I need to change to a new one.

My experience has been that the sponsor thinks he is superior to me because he has done something with someone else. It needs to be a trust-walk. I am powerless over something, so I need to place my burdens in Jesus' hands, he promises he will help me. He loved me before, he loves me now, and he will love me in the future. That is faith.
