Monday of the Thirtieth Week in Ordinary Time

When we experience moments of doubt and suffering, let us unite them with Jesus Christ so that we will also be glorified with Him. Today’s Gospel reading reminds us that when we enter recovery and join our respective 12-step groups, some people, including people from church, might criticize us or devalue us for joining these “unorthodox” groups. But Jesus reminds us that we were bound by Satan in our addiction and that He has anointed others, through the Holy Spirit, to bring healing to us. For many of us, those anointed “others” are found in our recovery meetings. Therefore, let us not be distracted by people who might judge or discourage us in our recovery but summon the risen Christ for encouragement as we continue our journey.

Reflection Questions

  • What challenges have you faced with your family and friends as you began recovery? How do you seek encouragement in your recovery when you feel discouraged?
