REFLECT

1. Tony’s story reflects how, after a simple and sincere prayer in rehab, his lifelong obsession with alcohol and drugs was suddenly lifted. Where in your life might God be inviting you to a simple but honest prayer of surrender, and what resistance do you feel to making that prayer?

2. Tony had reached a point where his own efforts had failed, and only then did he become open to something beyond himself. Where are you still relying on your own strength rather than acknowledging your powerlessness and need for God’s help?

3. Tony’s healing came not through control or strategy, but through receiving grace. What would it look like for you to stop trying to manage your recovery on your own and instead receive what God wants to give you?

Ive had an addiction since I was 14. I learned to hide and conceal it. The shame it brought made me feel like I had to bury it and attempt to overcome it myself. For 12 years I had never seen the power of God's grace until the surrender of my addiction. I feel like the control it had over me is now behind me. The temptation is still very present but the feeling of confidence that through the grace of God I can finally begin to start the life God wants for me has brought me so much peace.
