PRAY
Lord,
Enable the Holy Spirit to open my heart and mind to receive today’s insights and encouragement so that I may find healing, freedom, and joy through the sacramental life of the Church and the 12-steps of recovery.
Amen.
REFLECT
“By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests, the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them. And indeed she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the People of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and death of Christ” (The Catechism of the Catholic Church).
- This sacrament, like all sacraments, is an invitation to accept God’s healing love. How have you experienced God’s healing in your recovery and life? How might you better open yourself up to His healing?
- Advancement in both the spiritual life and recovery requires accepting we are not in control with a spirit of humility, and trusting that God’s the one in control. What areas of your life are you still trying to control
- The peace that God gives is different from what the world gives. The peace of God entails the reality that Christ remains with us, no matter our suffering and pain. How have you experienced this in your own life? Ask Christ to receive this peace today.
ACT
Consider finding a spiritual director and/or confessor with whom you meet regularly if you don’t already have one. Offer up your day’s prayers and sacrifice all priests, deacons, and religious.
