Section 7 – Holy Orders

The Twelve Steps and the Sacraments

Module 7 of 8

Section 7 - Holy Orders

PRAY

Lord,
Enable the Holy Spirit to open my heart and mind to receive today’s insights and encouragement so that I may find healing, freedom, and joy through the sacramental life of the Church and the 12-steps of recovery.
Amen.

REFLECT

“Holy Orders is the sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time: thus it is the sacrament of apostolic ministry. It includes three degrees: episcopate, presbyterate, and diaconate” (The Catechism of the Catholic Church).

  • The priest is called to reflect Christ to others in a specific and tangible way. While this is particularly unique to those who have been ordained, we are all called to reflect Christ to the world. How are you called to do so through your recovery and faith?
  • How have priests and other religious nourished your faith and recovery life?
  • Christ experienced suffering as we all do, though He did so without sin. What suffering are you experiencing that you can invite Jesus into? Reflect on how Jesus truly understands what you’re going through and desires to offer you His healing and comfort.

ACT

Consider finding a spiritual director and/or confessor with whom you meet regularly if you don’t already have one. Offer up your day’s prayers and sacrifice all priests, deacons, and religious.
