Section 4 – Eucharist

The Twelve Steps and the Sacraments

Module 4 of 8

Section 4 - Eucharist

PRAY

Lord,
Enable the Holy Spirit to open my heart and mind to receive today’s insights and encouragement so that I may find healing, freedom, and joy through the sacramental life of the Church and the 12-steps of recovery.
Amen.

REFLECT

Reflect on the following questions. It’s recommended that you write these down in a journal. You might also want to share them with your sponsor, your fellows in recovery, or others who share your faith.

“The Eucharist is the heart and the summit of the Church’s life, for in it Christ associates his Church and all her members with his sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving offered once for all on the cross to his Father; by this sacrifice he pours out the graces of salvation on his Body which is the Church” (The Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1407).

  • The Eucharist is at the center of our Catholic faith. We believe we truly receive Jesus when we receive the sacrament. Do you accept this teaching? What do you make of such a profound reality?
  • How can the Eucharist play a part in helping you maintain conscious contact with God through prayer and meditation? What does it mean to you to receive Jesus in the Eucharist, and what does it reveal to you about the type of God He is?
  • The Eucharist is nourishment for our journey in recovery and faith. How can you allow the Eucharist to play a more prominent role in your life?

ACT

Attend Eucharistic adoration (or sit before the tabernacle in a Church if adoration is not possible) for at least a half hour on a day this week.
