Section 12 – Humility

The CIR Digital Workbook Companion

Module 12 of 20

Section 12 - Humility

“If anyone would like to acquire humility, I can, I think, tell him the first step. The first step is to realize that one is proud. And a biggish step, too. At least, nothing whatever can be done before it. If you think you are not conceited, it means you are very conceited indeed.”—C. S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

PRAY

Seventh Step Prayer from Alcoholics Anonymous

My Creator,
I am now willing that you should have all of me,
the good and bad.
I pray that you now remove from me
every single defect of character
which stands in the way of my usefulness
to you and my fellows.
Grant me strength, as I go out from here,
to do your bidding.
Amen.

REFLECT

Take time to think about and write down responses to the following questions. Once you’ve done so, discuss your responses with your sponsor and/or small workbook group.

  • Who is a model of humility for you? Describe how their actions help you form patterns of humility and increase self-acceptance.
  • How do you maintain daily conversion?
  • Which of your character defects can you change into spiritual principles?

ACT

Complete the following before moving on to section 13:

  • Daily Conversion Reflection
  • Meditate on the Magnificat, and ask the Blessed Mother for the grace to approach Step 7 with humility
  • Pray the Seventh Step Prayer each day for at least a week or until you commit it to memory
