The Twelve Steps and the Sacraments

Module 1 of 8

Section 1 - Introduction

PRAY

Lord,
Enable the Holy Spirit to open my heart and mind to receive today’s insights and encouragement so that I may find healing, freedom, and joy through the sacramental life of the Church and the 12-steps of recovery.
Amen.

REFLECT

Reflect on the following questions. It’s recommended that you write these down in a journal. You might also want to share them with your sponsor, your fellows in recovery, or others who share your faith.

  • How familiar are you with the Twelve Steps of recovery, and what role, if any, have the Steps played in your faith? If you’re unfamiliar, what comes to mind when you hear the Twelve Steps?
  • What role do the sacraments play in your recovery and faith?
  • What are any hesitations you have about incorporating the sacraments and the Twelve Steps in your life? What do you think these hesitations indicate, and how might the Lord be asking you to respond in faith?

ACT

Plan to attend at least one CIR recovery meeting and/or a daily Mass during the course of this 8-day recovery journey.
