PRAY
The Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change
the courage to change the things I can
and the wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time,
enjoying one moment at a time,
accepting hardship as the pathway to peace.
Taking, as He did,
this sinful world as it is,
not as I would have it.
Trusting that He will make all things right,
if I surrender to His will.
That I may be reasonably happy in this life,
and supremely happy with Him forever
in the next. Amen.
Ask the Holy Spirit to show you one area of your heart that needs healing today.
Repeat this prayer slowly: Lord, grant me humility to see myself as You see me.
REFLECT
Reflect on the following questions. It’s recommended that you write these down in a journal. You might also want to share them with your sponsor, your fellows in recovery, or others who share your faith.
- Reflect on the value of having a sponsor, whether you have one already or not.
- Write down the qualities that you think make for a good sponsor. Is there someone who would make a good sponsor from your fellowship groups? Remember, we should look for someone who is living out the type of recovery we too want to have.
- Perhaps you’ve been recovering for some time and are being called to become a sponsor for another. Reflect on whether there is someone in your recovery circle whom you might consider getting to know better and, perhaps, even sponsoring.
