PRAY
The Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change
the courage to change the things I can
and the wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time,
enjoying one moment at a time,
accepting hardship as the pathway to peace.
Taking, as He did,
this sinful world as it is,
not as I would have it.
Trusting that He will make all things right,
if I surrender to His will.
That I may be reasonably happy in this life,
and supremely happy with Him forever
in the next. Amen.
Ask the Holy Spirit to show you one area of your heart that needs healing today.
Repeat this prayer slowly: Lord, grant me humility to see myself as You see me.
REFLECT
Reflect on the following questions. It’s recommended that you write these down in a journal. You might also want to share them with your sponsor, your fellows in recovery, or others who share your faith.
- Have you experienced unhelpful criticism from others for reasons related to your unhealthy attachment? How have you responded to these? How might the Lord be asking you to respond?
- When you’re being judged or unloved, you can Pray, Step Away, and Surrender. Consider what this might look like concretely for you with the people and places in your life.
- Surrender is the basis for recovery. How are you being called to surrender what you or others think or say about the way you look? What might God, who loves you perfectly, say to you instead?
