Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

(First Century) Mary visiting Elizabeth, the second Joyful Mystery of the Rosary, is recounted in the Gospel: “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb…Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled” (Luke 1:42, 45).

Mary’s life was full of her acknowledgement of a power greater than herself. Not only acknowledgement, but complete reliance on God is the constant motto of her life (“Do whatever He tells you” (John 2:5)), and the primary feature of any 12-step recovery. How do we get out of our own way to “Let go, and let God”? Pray today Mary’s Magnificat (Luke 1:46-55).

“Mary attributes nothing to her own merits. She refers all her greatness to the gift of one whose essence is power and whose nature is greatness, for he fills with greatness and strength the small and the weak who believe in him” (Saint Bede).
