Saint Castulus of Rome

(d.288) Castulus was the husband of Saint Irene, the woman who tended to Saint Sebastian’s arrow wounds. He was possibly a military officer or some other senior royal official in the household of Emperor Diocletian. Castulus converted many to Christianity and sheltered persecuted Christians in his own home. Some stories claim that he arranged for religious services inside the emperor’s palace, as it was the last place anyone would look for them. He was eventually betrayed, arrested, tortured, and buried alive in a sand pit outside of Rome.

The foundation of our recovery is surrender to God. We recognize that we are powerless and that our lives have become unmanageable (Step 1) as well as that God alone is all-powerful and can restore our sanity (Step 2). From these two steps, it follows that we then turn our will and our lives over to His care (Step 3). How has faith, hope, love, and trust in Jesus helped you overcome challenges?

“Whoever is begotten by God conquers the world. And the victory that conquers the world is our faith. Who [indeed] is the victor over the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” (1 John 5:4-5).
