(1669-1739) Luca Antonio Falcone was born to poor Italian parents and had two false starts to entering the Capuchin Franciscans due to his fear of the rigorous life. On his third attempt to enter the order, he finally completed the novitiate, taking the name Angelo, and eventually became a priest. He initially failed as a preacher before becoming sought after for this very skill. Angelo became known for his extraordinary charisms of healing, prophecy, bilocation, and the reading of souls in the Sacrament of Confession.
Angelo had a hard time remembering his sermons at the beginning of his ministry. Initially, he was laughed at. Speaking up in a recovery meeting can be intimidating, and sharing details with a sponsor can leave us worried that we will be judged. It may take some time and experience to realize that the other members are not there to pick apart your “share.” Speaking up can be a burden lightened by a burden shared. You also never know who might benefit from your own experience, strength, and hope.
“O Lord, I cannot trust myself. You know my weakness. Assist me with Your grace!” (Saint Angelo of Acri)
