(1881-1947) Born in Genoa, Italy, Maria was enamored by the story of Saint Rita of Cascia and joined the Augustinian monastery in Cascia at age 25, taking the name Maria Teresa. She became novice mistress, vicar, and abbess of the monastery and spread devotion to Saint Rita, who had nearly been forgotten at the time. Mother Maria started an orphanage for girls during World War II, and a seminary, hospital, and retreat house also came into being through her dedication.
Pope Saint John Paul II said at her beatification homily on October 12, 1997, “The Church holds her up today as a radiant example of the living synthesis between contemplative life and a humble witness of solidarity to men and women, especially to the poorest, the humble, the abandoned and suffering.” Prayer leads to action. How strong is your 11th Step?
“I love him even if it costs much, I love him because it is worth much, I love him at all costs” (Blessed Maria Teresa Fasce).
