(c.1190-1237) Born to Saxon nobility in modern-day Germany, Jordan studied theology at the University of Paris, where he met Saint Dominic de Guzman and was inspired to join the newly formed Order of Preachers, the Dominicans. Jordan was elected as the first successor to Dominic as Master General of the order. His effectiveness as a preacher and lecturer led to an enormous increase in vocations for the order, including inspiring Saint Albert the Great to become a Dominican. Jordan was also an early biographer of Saint Dominic.
Jordan was a profound preacher and natural leader. He shared what he loved, and his love was contagious. In recovery, “having had a spiritual awakening” from doing the step-work, we try to carry the message to others. Is the love for your faith and recovery contagious?
“There are two ways of keeping God’s word, namely, one whereby we store in our memory what we hear, and the other whereby we put into practice what we have heard (and none will deny that the latter is more commendable, inasmuch as it is better to sow grain than to store it in the barn)” (Blessed Jordan of Saxony).
