(1876-1936) Daniel was ordained a priest at 23 and taught secondary school for three years. He then joined the Congregation of the Holy Spirit to be a missionary in the French colony of Senegal. His health suffered from the climate in Africa, and he had to return to France within eight years. Daniel became a chaplain for the French Army during World War I and received several military awards for his service. He believed Saint Therese of Lisieux interceded for him to survive the front lines, and he built a chapel for her when she was canonized. After the war, he spent 13 years serving in an orphanage outside of Paris.
So many times do we see a saint attributing his or her success in service or ministry to the intercession of another saint. Saints inspire saints. How have you been inspired by the witness of a saint? Has the intercession of a particular saint been especially meaningful in your recovery?
“You must never doubt Providence, but pray and act. That way you can move mountains” (Blessed Daniel Brottier).
