I think we can all recall when we were under the bushel basket of addictions, compulsions, and unhealthy attachments. Ask yourself, would you have come into the light of recovery if not for the light of others? Wasn’t there someone who drew you to recovery? Someone who helped you begin your journey? Whether it was a spouse, child, friend, or even an acquaintance, there was probably a person in your life who helped you get back on your feet and into the light (or is helping you now), even if you’re just beginning your recovery journey. These helpers in our life had been given more and they generously shared it with us. Of course, it’s the grace of God working through others, ultimately, that brings us to recovery. We have all, by the grace of God, been given more. And as such, we need to give more. Let us share our gifts with others today in recovery and our lives overall, and the Lord will share His own gifts with us in great abundance.
Reflection Questions
- Who has been your lampstand in recovery? What did they do to help you?
- How has the light of Christ in your life affected your recovery experience? How are you sharing this light with those you encounter in need of “more”?
