Saturday of the Twelfth Week in Ordinary Time

These men carry a prophetic message to strengthen Abrahams’s troubled soul because he still does not understand how God is going to deliver him descendants when his wife is still barren. Isn’t it interesting that sometimes when we get busy helping others, more often than not, we get blessed in ways we didn’t expect? When Abraham gets busy doing the next right thing, God blesses his disquieted heart. Abraham shows his faith by being obedient and doing what the Lord asks him to do and as a result, these men gladden his heart by prophesying that in a year he will have a son, Isaac!

Sometimes the secret to unlocking God’s plan for our lives is to simply do the next right thing. We must “man our post” at the entrance of our tent and wait, like Abraham, to receive direction for our lives. And when we make ourselves present and willing to serve all who cross our path, we end up experiencing God’s presence and presents.

Reflection Questions

  • What do you experience when showing generosity, compassion, and hospitality to newcomers through service commitments? “When we get busy we get better” is a common slogan in recovery programs. How does your attitude change when you get busy helping others?
  • What is the “next right thing” God is asking you to do today?
