In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus reveals a profound truth about God’s nature: He is not the God of the dead but of the living. He is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, men with many flaws who made grave mistakes and, yet, were still chosen by God to lead His people. This truth speaks directly to recovery. Though we are broken, when we surrender and enter the rooms of recovery, God uses us to bring others closer to Him. Our brokenness becomes one of our greatest assets, revealing God’s grace to those around us. The Twelve Steps help us move from a place of pride and religious arrogance to one of humility and gratitude, where we can truly surrender and become alive in Christ.
Reflection Questions
- What obstacles have you encountered in completely surrendering to Jesus in your recovery? How did pride and/or an arrogant religious mentality keep you from asking for help or joining a recovery program?
- How have you experienced Jesus using you to help others in the midst of your brokenness?
