Later we read, “Good and upright is the LORD; thus he shows sinners the way. He guides the humble to justice, he teaches the humble his way.” We know that we are not saints, that we are sinners striving for holiness. God tells us that if we humble ourselves, He will bring justice to our lives and will show us a new way of living. When we get out of ourselves and let someone else (our sponsors) show us the way, God will speak to us through them. We will encounter the Holy Spirit through sponsors who guide us in our recovery by sharing their experience, strength, and hope as we work the Steps. Humility will allow us to make room for God’s redemption and have a new covenant in recovery. Opening our hearts to God’s guidance and getting out of the way will transform us into a new vessel for the Holy Spirit, enabling us to live a righteous, fruitful, and sober life.
