Monday of the Fifth Week in Ordinary Time

Audio Reflection

When we reach for Jesus’ “tassel” by working the Steps, Jesus allows His gifts and fruits of peace, love, freedom, healing, and joy to blossom in our lives. As we read in The Twelve Steps and the Sacraments, “Jesus enables us to find the will of God from within ourselves, assuming that we are willing to shed our own ambitions and follow the Spirit’s guidance.”

Saint John Chrysostom urges us to “dare to touch the hem of his clothes. Or rather, if we wish, we can have all of him. For Christ’s body lies before us now [in the Holy Eucharist]…Not only his garment but his very body. Not only to touch but to eat and enjoy.” Therefore, let us make continual recourse to the Eucharist, allowing the Lord to heal and teach us, while giving Him all praise, glory, and thanksgiving for keeping us sober one more day.

Reflection Questions

  • Reflect on the image of the crowds reaching for Jesus’ tassel. How might the Lord be inviting you to “reach for His tassel” today?
  • How often do you rework Steps 1, 2, and 3? Might you consider doing it briefly every day as part of your prayer?
