Memorial of Saint Irenaeus, Bishop & Martyr

As He did with Abraham, God encourages us to consider the uncountable number of stars stretched across the night sky. These are the countless souls we will help if we remain faithful to our spiritual practices and recovery principles. Our devoted reception of the Eucharist, sincere repentance through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, attentive praying of the Holy Rosary, efforts to discipline ourselves and grow in virtue, and our good words and acts of mercy will bring forth an abundance of spiritual children who have found salvation because of our faithful adherence to God’s will for our lives.

Just as Saint Irenaeus could never have dreamed that, 2000 years after his brief life on earth, people would still be transformed and converted by his words, we too will be amazed by what God will do with our efforts in recovery, no matter how small they seem. If we stay faithful, we can trust that countless others will one day greet us with joy and gratitude for our faithfulness in the eternal kingdom.
