Thursday of the Fourth Week of Easter

It can seem daunting to step out of our comfort zone to share our message of hope with others, to work with a recovery newcomer, or to be of service to our neighbor. Yet, in today’s first reading, we see four characteristics of Saint Paul from which we can draw wisdom to practice Step 12. First, Saint Paul has courage and boldness because he does not shy away when the opportunity to evangelize is presented to him. Second, he shows clarity and intention because he stands up and motions with his hand that he would like to speak. Third, he carried a word of exhortation, revealing that he didn’t have to prepare to share Christ because he already carried the message in his heart. And, finally, he is prudent when he speaks, evidenced by his adapting to the local customs and surroundings.

May the Holy Spirit guide us in boldness, courage, clarity, and prudence, as well as continually fill us with a fresh word to carry out the message of His hope, healing, and freedom in recovery and beyond. Saint Paul the Apostle, pray for us!
