In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus restores the leper to good health because, unsurprisingly, the leper believes. Again, we see in today’s readings the power of belief in unleashing God’s power and healing in our lives. If we don’t wholeheartedly believe, though, it is impossible for us to take the next step and turn our life and will over to the care of God (Step 3). It is not until we truly believe that God can and will restore us to sanity and free us from our addiction, compulsion, or unhealthy attachment that He will do so. And no matter how long we’ve been in recovery, we are called to continually believe God will heal and free us, one day at a time. From this belief, we are called to live in a state of awe and thanksgiving to God, remaining in constant conversation with Him and seeking Him in all we do.
Reflection Questions
- Do you wholeheartedly believe that God can restore you to sanity? How might that belief influence your day today?
- How do you regularly practice gratitude and conscious contact with God?
