Saint Dominic de Guzman

(1170-1221) When Blessed Joan of Aza was pregnant with the future founder of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans), she had a vision of him as a dog with a torch in its mouth setting the world on fire. Dominic was born to wealthy Spanish nobility and studied philosophy and theology at the University of Palencia. He became an Augustinian priest, worked for clerical reform, and taught against the Albigensian heresy in France. Based on experience, Dominic founded the Dominicans to combat heresies and to promote a simple life for the preachers.

“It is precisely this fundamental trait of Dominic’s witness that is emphasized: he always spoke with God and of God. Love for the Lord and for neighbour, the search for God’s glory and the salvation of souls in the lives of Saints always go hand in hand” (Pope Benedict XVI, General Audience on February 3, 2010). Which Steps does that apply to? How is this trait part of your recovery?

“A man who governs his passions is master of the world. We must either rule them or be ruled by them. It is better to be the hammer than the anvil” (Saint Dominic).
