(Peter c.1-c.64; Paul c.3-c.65) Saint Peter, also known as Simon bar Jonah and Cephas (Rock), was born in Bethsaida, Galilee. He was a professional fisherman and the brother of the Apostle Andrew. He was the first Pope and a miracle worker. Peter was crucified upside down (by request, stating he was not worthy to die as Christ did) in Rome. Saint Paul, also known as Saul, was from Tarsus (modern-day Turkey). He was formerly a Pharisee and Christian persecutor before becoming a traveling preacher and missionary evangelist after his conversion. He was beheaded in Rome, and his letters form a large part of the New Testament.
Saints Peter and Paul are leaders but not “founders” of the Church. They were chosen by Christ. It takes the embodiment of Step 12 to authentically carry the message to others. Have you had a spiritual awakening? As a result, do you carry the message in your faith and recovery lives?
“Be sober and vigilant. Your opponent the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion looking for [someone] to devour” (1 Peter 5:8).
