I won’t lie—it stung and cut deep. But looking back, I’m so grateful for those moments that challenged me to make a choice. I could stay stuck in my self-pity and keep getting the same results or I could choose to actually start applying the tools of the program to my life.
Today’s first reading reminds us of how God addresses Job in the midst of his suffering, confronting his self-pity and shifting his perspective. Job needed to be reminded of the truth about who God is and how vast His power and wisdom are—much bigger than any problem we face. God either is or He isn’t. Today, we have the opportunity to trust in God’s faithfulness, knowing that He doesn’t dismiss our suffering but instead helps us see it through a different lens.
Reflection Questions
- How do you deal with self-pity? What helps you regain perspective?
- How do you identify when you’re focusing more on someone else’s issues rather than addressing your own needs and growth? In difficult situations, how do you remind yourself of God’s faithfulness?
