Memorial of Saint Anthony of Padua, Priest & Doctor of the Church

A significant part of the recovery journey for me has been forgiving those who have hurt me. There have been deep wounds that I’ve needed healed through reconciliation with my brothers and sisters. It does not mean that the pain is no longer significant or that I’ve been completely healed. Yet, by bringing to Christ’s light my wounds, I have been able to grow and keep going on my journey of recovery. It is also a reminder of my own continual need to make amends to others and God, primarily through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, to help bring healing to the wounds that I’ve caused with others.

Today is the Memorial of Saint Anthony. He was drawn to a life of study and prayer, a life of humbleness, and a desire to glorify God. As a result, our Lord used him in powerful ways to produce much fruit. Let us devote our lives to the pursuit of holiness just like this great saint, doing so, in part, by reconciling with others with a spirit of peace.

Saint Anthony of Padua, pray for us!
