Similar to when Jesus tells Simon Peter to feed His sheep, we are also being called in recovery to pass it along to those in need. We are invited to “feed” others by sharing our experience, strength, and hope—by offering the Good News of Christ’s healing and recovery to those struggling with addictions, compulsions, and unhealthy attachments. For today’s Gospel Acclamation we read, “The Holy Spirit will teach you everything and remind you of all I told you” (John 14:26). It’s a reminder that, in our service to others, the Holy Spirit will guide, lead, and give us the wisdom to do so. And this will occur in CIR fellowships and meetings, our parishes, and all where we encounter the outcast, lonely, and suffering—all those in need of Christ’s “food” of mercy and love.
Reflection Questions
- How has God shown you mercy and love even when you have denied Him?
- How were you fed as one of God’s sheep when you came into recovery? How is God calling you to feed His sheep in recovery today?
