“Then, under the roof of your soul,
you will witness the sublime intimacy,
the divine, the Christ, taking birth forever,
as she grasps your hand for help,
for each of us is the midwife of God, each of us.”
He whose name is “I AM,” who yearns to come to life within you, formed you in your mother’s womb. The Eternal One, who has known you from before time and space itself, longs to greet you. Can you accept that Incomprehensible Love cherishes you in all your brokenness? Can you marvel in the astonishing truth that you are a beloved child of God, privileged to carry Christ to the wounded and the lost? Can you allow Him to inflame your heart like the disciples on the road to Emmaus? Can you understand that, like Mary, your life is a gift, the magnificent purpose of which is to nurture and give away the Divine Life so gratuitously lavished upon you? Can you truly comprehend your profound dignity, your immeasurable worth, as a beneficiary and benefactor of the Divine Mercy? Can you?
“Yes, there, under the dome of your being,
does creation come into existence eternally,
through your womb, dear pilgrim,
the sacred womb of your soul,
as God grasps our arms for help:
for each of us is His beloved servant never far.”
The breathtaking paradox is that Infinite Majesty is pleased to dwell within your finite meagerness. Divine Glory prostrates Himself that He may ennoble you. Sacred Perfection seeks you in all your imperfections, for His Power is made perfect in your weakness. Will you, therefore, renounce yourself, preferring nothing to the wondrous love of Christ? Will you embrace your suffering and serve the Suffering Servant who suffered and died for you? Will you, like the most Holy Virgin, trustingly proclaim, “Fiat”? Will you at last rejoice that God is with you, that Emmanuel exalts you—a sinner—as priest, prophet, and king? Will you?
“If you want, the virgin will come walking down the street,
pregnant with Light, and sing!”
If you want…
Saint John of the Cross, pray for us!
