Monday of the Twenty-fifth Week in Ordinary Time

Audio Reflection

In our Gospel reading today, Jesus gives us profound guidance as we strive to rebuild our lives: “For there is nothing hidden that will not become visible, and nothing secret that will not be known and come to light” (Luke 8:17). Our previous behavior of masking our actions, making excuses, and deceiving others has got to change. We need to live lives of transparency in order to maintain our recovery. The guidance of our Lord is also mirrored in the Twelve Steps, with the emphasis on honesty as being critical to restoring our lives. If we fail to walk this path, “what he seems to have will be taken away,” but if we adhere to the teachings of Jesus, “To anyone who has, more will be given” (Luke 8:18).

  • Reflect upon your feelings when you’ve hidden your behaviors as opposed to when you’ve been honest about them. What, if any, were the differences?
