These marvelous words of divine amazement are at the foundation of Saint John’s life. When I contemplate Saint John’s birth, life, and death, Step 11 (“Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out”) comes to mind. As we celebrate Saint John’s Passion today, let us grow increasingly mindful of the God who guides our every breath.

• Saint John is often pictured with a lamb and is known as the Patron Saint of Lambs. What else does the lamb signify to you?
