Saturday of the Twentieth Week in Ordinary Time

Audio Reflection

A few years into my recovery, I saw that I had replaced my addiction with habits that, if not checked, would become new “masters” to me, such as my use of social media. During COVID, I was repeatedly struck with how my routine could be easily interrupted, which put me at risk of relapse at worst and, at best, created a revolving door of unhealthy new masters in my life.

Fortunately, Our Lord is a loving Father, and after falling and being humbled, Christ, our true master, is always ready to receive us back. Let us pray today that we always keep only one master in our lives—Jesus Christ.

Reflection Questions

  • What new “masters” do you have in your life that you need to renounce? What can you do today to renounce them?
  • How can you better allow God to be your master as you serve Him in your recovery?
