Wednesday of the Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time

I used to be one of the “wise and the learned” when it came to defending my drinking. I could justify any reason why I needed a drink, and I believed it had a necessary place in my life. But when I hit my bottom and was faced with the need to live a life without alcohol, I heard another voice that was not my own—one of wisdom and healing. It was the voice of recovery in the rooms of AA and of God at the Holy Mass. It was only when I became childlike that the mysteries of God’s healing grace lifted me from my addiction. Therefore, let us continue to live out our recovery with a childlike faith and a humble heart, listening always for the healing voice of God.
