I can imagine that after the Israelites were oppressed and enslaved for 400 years, even experienced the murder of their children at the hands of Pharaoh, they were probably having a difficult time understanding how God could allow so much evil and suffering, much like I was before finding healing from my addictions. Yet, when we choose to trust in God, we come to understand that He can make all things work for our good.
Jesus, who died, suffered, and rose from the dead, is the answer to all the suffering and evil in the world. He came to save and redeem us. Today’s Responsorial Psalm captures it best: “Our help is in the Lord.” Jesus promises us if we trust in Him in our own suffering, even in the midst of our addictions and unhealthy attachments, that He will save and heal us. Let us keep this in mind as we continue today on our journey of faith and recovery.
Reflection Questions
- Do you believe Jesus can heal you—and keep you healed—from your addictions or unhealthy attachments? What might this look like in your life?
- Does Jesus’ own suffering, death, and resurrection help you to see how much He loves you, even in a world full of evil and suffering? How might you reflect on this truth today?
