Monday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time

As we read in the Big Book, “When we look back we realize that the things that came to us when we put ourselves in God’s hands were better than anything we could have planned. Follow the dictates of a High Power, and you will presently live in a new and wonderful world, no matter what your present circumstances.” This message reassures us of God’s constant companionship and partnership with us as long as we continue to trust Him in all things.

Today’s Gospel reading about the hemorrhaging woman is one that I identify with the “hemorrhages” of addiction that take the forms of a loss of self, shame, self-loathing, and sin. Often, I have imagined touching the tassel of Jesus’ cloak and knowing that He has healed me, which He does for me every day through recovery and the Church. Jesus saw me in my active addiction and proclaimed, “Courage, daughter! Your faith has saved you” (Matthew 9:22). This is true for all of us, especially as we approach Him in the Eucharist with faith and encounter the healing power of our Lord.

Reflection Questions

  • When you “look back” over your life how do you recognize the presence of Jesus?
  • Are there areas of your life where you are still “hemorrhaging” emotionally or spiritually? How can you trust God with these areas of your life today?
