Monday of the Second Week of Easter

We as Catholics have also been baptized and brought into a new way of living with Jesus through the sacrament itself. The benefits we enjoy are many. Beyond our baptism, we also have the Mass, where we receive the Eucharist as yet another opportunity for rebirth in Christ on our road of recovery. When we leave behind our addictions, compulsions, and unhealthy attachments, we experience a third “birth.” We are truly blessed to be Catholic and in recovery, which gives us so many ways to be reborn into a new life with Christ.

Finally, as we see in today’s first reading, Peter and John take on a life that would not be easy. Yet, it would be fulfilling, and they were excited to take on this new life of challenges much like we are when we decide to take on a new life in recovery. Peter and John succeeded with the grace of God, and so shall we in our recovery with Christ.

Reflection Questions

  • Have you ever had an experience in recovery that you would consider a “ being born again” moment? How has God helped you along the way in this rebirth?
  • Do you have an “apostle” friend in your life, like Peter or John, who has helped you along the way of faith and recovery? Consider praying for or reaching out to this person today with gratitude.
